Policies and Procedures

Transportation:  School districts or parents are responsible for all transportation to and from ASCEND.  Transportation to local field trips will be provided in our school bus and approved staff vehicles.

Lunch:  Parents are responsible to provide a healthy lunch, beverage, and snack daily.  We can refrigerate and microwave as needed.

Classroom Supplies:  Parents will be given a supply list for the teacher.  Supplies may be sent in the first week of school.

Tuition:  Parents or districts placing students are responsible for the tuition costs accrued based on attendance up to the last day child is in attendance.  Administration will assist families in securing tax credit scholarship funds as they become available.

Attendance:  Please call the school office if your child will be late or absent.  We must report attendance to districts placing students.  Please remember your child’s success depends on a consistent routine and attendance.  Please avoid scheduling appointments that conflict with our schedule whenever possible.

School Hours:  Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures: Students should not be dropped off prior to 8:20 a.m.  If morning respite is needed please arrange that separately.  Parents are then asked to sign students in as they arrive.  Please make sure students are here and ready to enter class with staff by 8:30 a.m. promptly.  This will help eliminate disruptions and confusion in the mornings.

Students should be picked up by 2:30 p.m.  Students will be brought out to parents.  Parents may come early to gather students’ belongings.  Staff will try to assist with packing up belongings, but please be aware that they are working directly with students until 2:30 p.m., so it may be necessary for parents to pack up backpacks with papers, lunch boxes, etc.  It is not the responsibility of ASCEND to provide care before 8:30 a.m. or after 2:30 p.m.

Absences:  Absences will only be excused with a parent phone call.  Repeated absences without notification may result in loss of placement with ASCEND.

Snow Days:  Snow Days and late starts will be announced by local radio.  ASCEND will follow Prescott Unified School Districts late starts and closures.  Please check the website at www.prescottschools.com for updated information. Please listen carefully to local radio stations or check PUSD’s website for update information during inclement weather.

Inclement and Excessive Weather:  Children will be outdoors daily unless the weather is inclement or excessively hot.  Please provide appropriate clothing to provide for outdoor play.  Sunscreen and water bottles will need to be provided as needed.

Visitors:  ASCEND will welcome parents to visit anytime, with or without advanced notice.  Currently enrolled parents wishing to visit are asked to coordinate visits with the classroom teacher.  Visitors not known to the staff at ASCEND must report to the Director or Business Operations Manager and sign in.  They will then be accompanied during the visit.

Parent Conferences and Marking Periods:  Parent conferences are an ongoing process at ASCEND.  Daily notebooks will be exchanged between parents and teachers.  Parents or staff may call for a conference at any time as the need arises.  Conferences must be held before or after school as not to interrupt instruction.

Standardized Testing:  The AZ Merit, AIMS-A, or MSAA test will be given every spring.
